On January 19, 2019, Dr. Lucia Serio Provenza at 101 years old passed away from this earth. She epitomized the idea of leaving this world a better place because of her influence of kindness, knowledge, compassion, humor and gentility. Our family has lost a loving and cherished matriarch.

Lucia was predeceased by her devoted husband, Dr. D. Vincent Provenza, her parents, Rosina and Antonio Serio and her seven siblings. Her survivors include her daughters, LuAnne DiStefano and MariJo Bushman. Also her grandsons, Dr. Thomas V. DiStefano, David M. DiStefano and Damian Sisca, survive her as well as her great-grandchildren, Luca Sisca, Mia Sisca, Thomas DiStefano and James DiStefano.

Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews as well as great-great nieces and nephews, a great-great-great niece and devoted friends survive Lucia. As a young teenager, Lucia graduated from Forest Park High School. After concluding her studies at Towson University, she attained a notable career as a teacher and administrator with the Baltimore City Public School System.

In her retirement, she earned a Doctoral degree from the University of Maryland at College Park, Maryland. She became the Chairperson of Education at Notre Dame University in Maryland. A Memorial Mass will be said in her honor on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00 Am at SS Philip and James Church, 2801 N. Charles St. Baltimore, MD 21218.
