Duane E Horrocks , September 01, 1924 — February 13, 2019

Duane E Horrocks, 94, died peacefully in Mt Pleasant in the early morning of February 13, 2019. Duane was born on September 1, 1924 near Ionia, Michigan. Duane graduated from Ionia High School in 1943.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the 8th Army Occupational as Military Policeman and was assigned as guard to Sugamo Prison Japan. Duane guarded Japanese prisoners on trial at the War Crimes Trials in Tokyo, Japan. He received the WWII Victory medal and the Army Occupation medal.

He was discharged with a Honorable Discharge on June 6, 1947. Duane was a life time member of the VFW in Belding, Mi. He was employed by Oldsmobile in Lansing for 37 years.

Duane was a very patient and loving husband; father; grandfather; great grandfather; and friend. He touched the heart of everyone he met. He was an avid fisherman and loved to play cards.

He is survived by his brother Stan (Flora) Horrocks Jennison; his sister Lois Lafler of Mears; and by his children, Doris (James) McCarthy of Everett, Washington, Ray (Terry) Horrocks of Mt Pleasant, Donna Lea Kriss of Mt Pleasant, Thomas (Dorothy) Horrocks of Gunnison, Co., Shirley Lutz of Lansing, Carroll Ward (Butch Ellis) of Belding, David (Carol) Holmden of Kalkaska; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and loving friends Connie and Marvin Waid of Belding, Henry and Ellen Voss of Orleans and Pete Wolf of Cedar Springs. Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Arla and his son, Michael Horrocks. The family would like to thank the wonderful people at Prestige Centre in Mt Pleasant for their great care.

Special thanks to Jamie, Juanita, Deanna, Roberta, Bobbi, Cylee, Julie, Zanah, Cheyanne, Clara, Tanya, Nan, Anita, and especially Joe. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday, February 15, 2019 at the Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home located at 203 S. Pleasant Street, Belding, Mi. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church 422 W High Street Belding, Michigan. Interment will be in the Spring in River Ridge Cemetery, Belding.
