Obituary for Duane Hoover Lines When tomorrow starts without me, try to understand, an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand…. . Duane Hoover Lines, 89, of LeRaysville, Pa passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Guthrie Towanda.
Hoover as he was affectionately known by his family and friends was born on March 4, 1929 in LeRaysville, Pa one of eleven children of W. Earl and Lena (Lewis) Lines. He was a graduate of LeRaysville High School class of 1947. Following graduation Hoover was employed as a maintenance man for the State Roads in Pennsylvania.
On August 29, 1947 he married Verna Ford and together they have shared nearly 71 years of marriage. For several years, he was employed at the Towanda Folding Box Company and in 1956 Hoover and Verna returned to LeRaysville and operated the family farm for nearly 40 years. In addition to operating the family farm he also served as a substitute rural mail carrier in the LeRaysville area.
Hoover was a devoted member of the Dille Parish United Church of Christ, a member of the Nichols and Towanda Senior Citizens; former member of the Northeast Bradford School Board and the Eastern Milk Producers. Many will remember his love for music and his participation with the LeRaysville Minstrel. Hoover will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife Verna; his daughter and son-in-law Linda and Dennis Carr of Rome, Pa; his son and daughter-in-law: John and Sandra Lines of Bloomsburg, Pa; a sister Helen Hammerly of Rome, Pa; his special grandchildren: Michael Eric (Lesia) Malencore, Kristy (Robert) Garcia, Timothy (Amy) Carr, Gregory (Amy) Carr; his great grandchildren: Michael, Caitlin, Lindsey, Natalie, Brianna, and Amaya.
Many nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Hoover was welcomed into heaven by his parents, his siblings: Ralph Lines, Joseph Lines, Robert Lines, Leo Lines, Maggie McMann, Betty Cragle, Grace Wickwire, Mildred Monroe, Charlotte Stalford and a granddaughter Tammy Sue Carr. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation and time of sharing memories on Thursday, July 5th from 12 – 2 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols.
A funeral service and celebration of his life will follow at 2 pm with Pastor Tom Burlington and Sharon Rockefeller, officiating. Interment and prayers of committal will follow in the Orwell Hill Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared by visiting his guest book at www.
