Obituary for Lyle “Barney” B. Adams A life well lived is a precious gift, of hope and strength and grace, from someone who has made our world a brighter, better place. It’s filled with moments, sweet and sad with smiles and sometimes tears, with friendships formed and good times shared, and laughter through the years. A life well lived is a legacy, of joy and pride and pleasure, a living, lasting memory our grateful heart’s will treasure.

Lyle “Barney” Adams, 95, of Sayre, Pa passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 5, 2018. He was born on March 26, 1923 in Canton, Pa a son of the late Edith (Paul) and Edward Adams. Barney proudly served his country with the US Army and on May 14, 1942 he married Katherine Desmond ~ together they celebrated 28 years of marriage until her passing in July 1969.

Barney was a long time employee for Dairylea Milk Cooperative. A talented carpenter he shared his love for making all kinds of wooden furniture and holiday decorations with his family and friends. He reflected that “he loved seeing the kids faces and smiles when he shared something he made for them” Barney was a lifetime member of the VFW; enjoyed dancing, listening to polka music and playing cards.

He treasured the time spent with his children, grandchildren and friends ~ if love could have saved him, he would have lived forever. Barney will be greatly missed by his children: Betty Eldred of Greene, NY; Penny Adams of Sayre, Pa; Tom Adams of Sayre, Pa; Lyle (Genise) Adams of Cumberland, MD; Jack Adams of Sayre, Pa; Bob (Kathy) Adams of E. Smithfield; Patty (Nick) Barry of Jacksonville, Fla; Lyndon (Crystal) Ray of Litchfield, PA; and Tammy Whyard of Johnson City. His brother Donald Adams of Wytheville, VA.

His special grandchildren: Mike, Deb, Wesley, Carol, Kimberly, Bobbie Jo, Annie, Thomas, Jasper, Kara, Jack Jr., Billy Jo, Brian, B.J., Jessie, Justin, Nichole, Stacey, Nick, Tina, April, Chris and Theresa. Many, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Katherine, daughter Kathleen Irons, and son-in-law Malvin Eldred; sisters Helen, Eleanor, brother Edward Adams; step brothers Wesley, James, Leon, Leonard, John Pelton.

Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Saturday, May 12th from 11 to 1 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A funeral service and celebration of Barney’s life will follow at 1 pm with his granddaughter Nichole Greene, officiating. Memories and condolences may be shared by visiting his guest book at www.
