Obituary for Gary L. Nichols Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard but always near, so loved, so missed so very dear…Our hearts were broken on Monday, March 5, 2018 when our loving Husband, Dad, Brother, Grandpa, Uncle and Friend Gary L. Nichols, 75, of Nichols, NY passed away. Gary was born on December 3, 1942 in Waverly, NY a son of the late Abram L. and Bertha (Stage) Nichols.
He attended school at Tioga Central and at the age of 17 entered into the US Army where he proudly served his country from 1959 to 1962. For twenty-two years, Gary served as a Tioga Central School Bus Driver. He treasured the time spent with his family, enjoyed camping at Pine Cradle and Wanata Lake, hunting and fishing with his brothers.
Gary was a member of the Owego Moose where he served as Govenor in 1979 and later served as State President from 1986 to 1987. Receive Pilgrim Degree of Merit Award on May 28, 1988. In addition, Gary was also a member of the Nichols American Legion, and a lifetime member of the Tioga Center Fire Department.
Gary will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 35 years Linda; his daughters and sons-in-law: Lenna and Dave Malone of Nichols; Joanne Ulrich and Elmer Stevens of Litchfield, Pa; Laurie and Jerry Kuntz of Springfield, Oregon; Wendy and Ron McClure of Barton, NY; Tamara and Shane Stilwell of Nichols; Tonya and Timothy Johnson of Waverly, NY; his special grandchildren: David (Valerie) Malone, Brent Malone, Gary Malone, Alan (Jeanne) Ulrich, Jr., Stormi (Harley) Ulrich, Michael (Megan) Kuntz, Jerry (Kelly) Kuntz, Sarah Kuntz, Miranda Nichols, Destiny McClure, Christopher Johnson and Derek Johnson; ten great grandchildren; his siblings: Barbara and John Merrill; George and Virginia Nichols; Lois and Frank Wasielewski; Fred and Joan Nichols; Richard and Cooki Nichols; Dorothy Schopf, sister-in-law Bonnie Nichols; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: James (Evelyn) Scott, Candor, NY; Martin (Pauline) Scott, Candor, NY; Edward Scott, Groton, NY several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and their families also survive. Gary was predeceased by his parents Abram and Bertha Nichols; his brother Jack Nichols; sister Joanne Nichols; nephew Jack Nichols, Jr., mother-in-law: Elma Scott; and a brother-in-law Leslie Scott. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Friday, March 9th from 10 to 12 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols.
