Dwight Eugene “Gene” Theobald, died April 26, 2019. Gene was born April 6,1924 to Dwight C. and Mary Evelyn (Munn) Theobald in Lincoln, Nebraska. He attended Waverly High school, graduating in 1942, the University of Nebraska and University of Georgia.

He enlisted in the United States Navy and trained as a pilot. After his military service, he was a Vo Ag Teacher and turkey farmer in Waverly, Nebraska, then served as a County Supervisor for Farmers Home Administration, retiring in 1983. He later owned and operated Theobald Appraisal.

Gene served on numerous board and committees, including the Red Cloud School Board, President of Educational Service Unit #9, Webster County Hospital Board, Red Cloud Cemetery Board, Webster County Planning and Zoning Commission, Red Cloud Community Foundation Advisory Board, Red Cloud Senior Citizens and Red Cloud Airport Authority. He was a member of Cowles American Legion, serving as Adjutant and was a member of the Honor Guard. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church On July 2,1949 he Married Elizabeth A. Keane in Davey, Nebraska.

They welcomed seven children into their family, Jane, Thomas, Jo Ann, Jeri, Don, Ted, Dan, plus John Felton. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth, on July 17,1997, and son Thomas and daughter Jo Ann; a brother, Don Theobald and his wife, Phyllis and sister Joan Reed, and her husband, Duane; brothers in Law, Bernard Keane and wife, Millie; James Keane, and wife, Adeie; Emmett Keane; Joe Keane and wife Wilma; sisters in law Mary O’Reilly and husband Peter; Patricia Esser, and husband Clem. Those left to honor his memory are daughters Jane (Tom) McClelland; Jeri (Brad) Peterson, and sons, Don (Teri)Theobald, Ted (JoAnne) Theobald and Dan (Cynthia) Theobald, son in law Keith Koler and daughter in law, Kristi Theobald, John and Becky Felton, twelve grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial to the Webster County Historical Museum or the Cowles American Legion. The Rosary will be recited Friday, 7:00 p.m., June 14, 2019 at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, 10:00 a.m., June 15, 2019 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Red Cloud with Rev.

Paul Frank officiating. Inurment with military honors will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Red Cloud.
