Earl Ouzts, 84 of Grand Rapids, Mi. passed away Tuesday night July 18, 2018 in the comfort of his home surrounded by loved ones. Widower of Joyce (Romine) Ouzts married since 1957.

Born in Maben, Mississippi in 1934, he was the son of Rube and Lillian (Peak). He had 10 siblings that meant the world to him. Many nieces and nephews most of whom considered him their “favorite uncle”.

The son of poor share croppers, he could read but could barely write and yet he managed to make a great life for his family. He was also an auto laborer for over 30 years and a self-taught guitarist since the age of 11. He was an active member of the VFW 830 post in Grand Rapids and a member of the American Legion post #225 as well.

His hobbies included guitars, guitars, guitars and guitar building. His artistic talent was unsurpassed in leather tooling and wood-working. He loved working on old cars, particularly the Ford Mustang.

He also loved his Ford F150 pick- up truck. He will be remembered for his deep southern drawl and his keen play on words. His love of classic country music and his willingness to teach music to anyone who wanted to learn, free of charge.

He enjoyed spaghetti westerns and anything cowboy. Our asses will forever remember his boot size. He is survived by his daughter Tammy (Joe) Patrick and their children: Samantha with one great-grandchild, Joseph and Benjammin of Grand Rapids.

Grandsons Eric (Sabrina) Ouzts with six great-grandchildren of Senger, CA. and Wesley (Shana) Smith with four great-grandchildren of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Romona Joyce (Romine) and his daughter Connie Jean (Ouzts) Smith.

Visitation will commence on Monday, July 23, 2018 2-4 and 6-8 at Memorial Alternatives located at: 2432 Fuller Ave. N.E., Grand Rapids, MI.
