Earle is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen Hoxie and their four children, David Hoxie of WV, Jennifer Radloff of AZ, Thomas Hoxie of VA, and Alice Hart of SC as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Earle was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1928.

He grew up in Glenside, PA and enlisted in the US Army in 1945 as part of the invasion forces to Japan. Earle later recalled that, “We were halfway across the Pacific when we heard about the bomb. It probably saved my life”.

Earle was honorably discharged from the Army in November, 1947. Using the GI Bill, he attended Lehigh University to study Metallurgical Engineering and graduated in 1952. While at Lehigh, Earle married Helen Wright (the girl next door) in 1950.

Earle started his career with the DuPont and Demours Company. A year later, he was transferred to the Savannah River Atomic Research Plant in Georgia. Another transfer followed in 1963 when Earle moved to DuPont’s Niagara Falls, NY facility.

He excelled at his work in the fields of Chemical, Material, and Corrosion Engineering. He left DuPont in 1969 to take a position in marketing and sales with the International Nickel Company, USA (INCO). He bought a home in Ossining, NY and commuted to New York City each day.

Earle loved his family and spent free time with his wife and kids (and later grandchildren) vacationing in Saranac Lake, NY in the Adirondacks and doing hobbies at home. He enjoyed photography, chess, home improvements, listening to music, boating, fishing, pool, card games, washing his cars, and coin collecting. He enjoyed “Family Night” especially.

He was able to send all his children to college. In 1982, Earle was given early retirement from INCO. With determination, Earle took a position of Corrosion Engineer with the Saudi Aramco Oil Company.

This time, Helen and he moved to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Although living overseas was a challenge, it afforded them the chance to travel extensively around the world during their repats and vacations. It was a lifetime dream come true for both of them.

Earle and Helen retired in 1990 to Surfside Beach, SC To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Earle Hoxie please visit our Sympathy Store.
