Obituary for Edgar R. Cooksey . Service for Edgar R. Cooksey will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 22, 2018 at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel; burial will follow at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 21 from 1pm-8pm, with family receiving visitors from 6pm-8pm.

Edgar passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018. He was 91. Born February 28, 1927 in Lone Grove, Oklahoma to Louis C. and Alice V. (Butler) Cooksey, Edgar received his education in Magazine, Arkansas.

Following his schooling, he enlisted with the military, where he served two different tours. Between his first enlistment, Edgar worked with his brother in Alaska on the pipeline and building houses. On December 19, 1953, he married Donna J. Conlin in Wellington, Kansas.

Edgar’s job with Boeing took he and his family to numerous places. Places such as California, Wellington, Amarillo, Roswell, and Seattle. However in 1972 Edgar took a job working with American Airlines.

This brought his family to Oklahoma where the lived in Collinsville a short time before moving to Claremore. He retired in 1991 after 19 years of service as a Mechanic. He enjoyed many different hobbies, which included genealogy, flower and vegtable gardening, and reading.

He loved a good western or mystery, but reading to his grandkids was his favorite. Those family members that survive include his wife Donna of their home; his children Tony R. Cooksey, Joyce M. Washburn and husband Bob and Pamela Walker and husband Ronnie all of Claremore; grandchildren Chris Smith, Zachary Washburn, Sarah Williams, Cassi Washburn, Courtney Blevins and Elizabeth Cooksey; great grandchildren Callen Williams, Noah McQueen, Harrison and Chapman Blevins and Chloe Washburn; sisters Essie Golden of Houston, Texas and Lou Woodliff of Booneville, Arkansas and several nieces and nephews. Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Bob, Bill,Jack and Pearl Cooksey, Sarah Hopkins, Almedia Glass and gradnson Silas.
