Edith Rose M Cann , November 12, 1922 — April 17, 2018

McCann, Edith Edith Rose Kinyon Niblick McCann was born on November 12, 1922, in South Bend, Indiana, the youngest of six children of Charles Franklin Kinyon and Ida Lawrence Kinyon. She grew up in South Bend and moved to Sanford, Florida, in 1972 with her second husband, James Spencer (Mac) McCann. Edith is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Niblick Sibly (Rick) of Atlanta, GA, Patricia Niblick Wilson Akins of Perry, GA, and Linda Niblick Todd (Joe) of Orlando, as well as eight grandchildren, Justin Sibly (Traci) of Plant City, FL, Nathan Sibly of Atlanta, Corinne Sibly Wolfersberger (Jay) of Atlanta, Christina Wilson Constancio (Jaime) of San Diego, Jeanene (Jeanie) Goad (Josh) of San Diego, Christopher Todd (Mary Dillon) of Orlando, Kyle Todd (Paul Favata) of Liberty, NY, and Amanda Todd McCaffrey (Colin) of Sanford.

She also has ten great grandchildren, Christian, Quintin, Jay, Josh, Alivia, Jasper, Summer, Ryder, Riley, and Maddie. Edith will be remembered most for her garden, her care for others, her love of God, and her sense of humor. Edith’s family was in the greenhouse/florist business, so she came by her green thumb naturally.

Her home in Sanford was her third brand-new home and she always had fun finding unusual plant materials, especially in Florida where she seemed to have one of everything that she couldn’t grow in Indiana. It wasn’t unusual to find her weeding, pruning, planting, or fertilizing on any given day. She mowed her own grass into her 90s.

Most occasions, from birthdays to sick visits to volunteering at her church, called for a container of cookies, usually in a coffee can (don’t lose it) or a plastic Cool Whip container. She loved to play cards and even made it to her old Bunko group a few weeks before her death. She “danced” at her granddaughter Amanda’s wedding in March to what she called the “wheelchair hop” with great-granddaughter Riley (5).

Even when she could no longer attend services to sit with her “Group” at her spiritual home, Northland Church, she watched the services online, hoping they’d pan the audience and laughing at the jokes from her favorite pastors. Edith had a good life with family near and far, many friends, and travel across the U.S. and Europe after her retirement from Seminole State College, then reliving those experiences when something as simple as a tulip would remind her of a trip to Holland. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 20, at 11:00 at Northland Church, 530 Dog Track Road in Longwood.
