Edward Dale Godfrey, age 86, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at UNC Hospice House in Pittsboro. He was born in Lee County on May 18, 1932 to the late Sam Henry Godfrey and Myrtle Helms Godfrey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Brown Godfrey.

Ed was a veteran of the US Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 382 and Stanley McLeod VFW Post 5631. He enjoyed a long career handcrafting fine furniture. He is survived by his son, Edward Dale Godfrey, Jr. and wife, Valerie of Sanford; two sisters, Jeanette Al-Habib and Doris Carter both of Sanford and three grandchildren, Jonathan Godfrey, Samuel Godfrey and Joseph Godfrey.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM in the multi-purpose building at Holly Springs Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM in the church sanctuary with Rev. Scott Yow and Rev.

Jerry Parsons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Stanley McLeod VFW Post 5631, 1500 Veterans Way, Sanford, NC 27330.
