Edward Lawrence Kahler, age 82, of Keymar, died Friday, November 2, 2018 at Carroll Lutheran Village Health Care Center, Westminster. Born April 2, 1936 in Clarksville, MD, he was the son of the late William Charles Kahler Sr. and Katie Mae Hartman Kahler. He was the husband of Carol Sweeney Kahler, his wife of 60 years.
Mr. Kahler was a graduate of Howard High School and then dairy farmed with his parents. He and his wife started farming in Columbia, Howard County, then moved to Unionville… Read More » for 2 years and finally settled on their home farm “Gaywinds Farm” in Keymar in 1963. He was very talented with building and remodeled their old farm house.
He continued farming until 2002. He also owned and operated Gaywinds Trailer and Equipment Sales for more than 40 years. Ed was a member and past president of the Frederick County Holstein Association; member of MD Holstein Association, MD Jersey Cattle Club, Frederick County Equipment Dealers, and Johnsville United Methodist Church.
He was a 4-H leader for more than 25 years, a 4-H All Star and he enjoyed restoring antique tractors, traveling, camping, fishing and spending time with his family. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children James E. Kahler and wife Mauvra “Miffie” of Wellsboro, PA, Patricia Kahler Beachy of Keymar, Kathy Lynn Hooper of Fairfield, PA, Jack E. Kahler of Keymar; 15 grandchildren, Jason Lambert, Lindsey Pickering and Shane, Bobby Kahler, Andy Covell and Raven, Adam Covell and Jeanette, Collin Hooper, Hannah Hooper, Chris Beachy and Jordyn, Katelyn Molnar and Michael, Shane Beachy and Angela, Brandon Kahler, Dusty Kahler, Wyatt Kahler, Evan Kahler and Kylie Kahler; 8 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Mylah Covell, Camryn and Cooper Beachy, Brynlee Pickering, Logan Lambert, and Isabella and Johnny Covell; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Kahler Jr.; and sisters, Margaret Murphy and Dorothy Mackin.
A funeral service will be held at Hartzler Funeral Home-Libertytown, 11802 Liberty Rd. , Frederick, 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 8, with Rev. Paul Leatherman, pastor of Edgewood and Sams Creek Church of the Brethren and Pastor Brian Remsch of New Beginning Nazarene Church, Mt.
Airy, officiating. Interment will follow in Linganore Cemetery, Unionville. Pallbearers will be Andy and Adam Covell, Chris and Shane Beachy, Brandon, Dusty and Wyatt Kahler and Collin Hooper.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, November 7. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J.
