Elaine L. Socia, our dear wife, mother, grandmother, and sister died peacefully Thursday, July 5, 2018 at McLaren Bay Region. The youngest of four children, she was born December 2, 1933 to the late Louis and Sylvia (Knoodle) Gary in Bay City. After raising her family, Elaine was employed as a bookkeeper at the former Ford’s Clothing Store, Newcor Inc., and retired from Quality Bag.

She was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John Church) and enjoyed going to the casino, taking walks,… Read More » and nature. She along with her husband of 62 years, Jim, planted over 40 trees at their home, but their most important accomplishment was instilling a sense of family values in their children. Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband James D. Socia whom she married June 9, 1956 in St. James Church, along with her four children: Gary (Barb), Kevin (Lois), Jamie (Jim) Nichols, Chris (Laurie); nine grandchildren: Colin, Brandon, Jarad, Amanda, Grant, Parker, Brittany, Brad, and Cassidy; five great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; two sisters: Arlene Obermiller, Geraldine DeShano; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by three grandchildren: Austin, Tyler, and Kennedy Socia; and her sister: Vivian Grappin. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Monday, July 9, 2018 at 10:00 at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish – St. John Church, 614 Pine St., Essexville. Rev.

Dale A. Orlik will preside and interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be designated for the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan. Visiting hours with the family will be Sunday from 4:00 until 8:00 at the W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel; and in church on Monday after 9:00 am.
