Elaine N. Scher (nee Mansfield) 78 of Whiting, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at her residence. She was the beloved wife of the late Leonard A. Scher who passed away in 1996; loving mother of Dawn (Rick Ray) Scher and David Scher; cherished “Grammy” of David, Ashton, Kyle, Alesis and Caitlin; eight great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; dearest sister of Robert (Sonia) Mansfield and the late Evelyn Mansfield, Edward Mansfield and Edith Kubisz; dear sister-in-law of Eve (late Michael) Scher; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 10:00am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting with Pastor C. James Facklam, officiating; interment, Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville; visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00pm.

Elaine Scher was born on July 18, 1940 in Hammond, Indiana to Wilbert and Mary Mansfield. She was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region and was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1958. Elaine was very family oriented and was a devoted wife, mother and “Grammy”.
