On April 13, 2018, the call was made and Mrs. Elena Hinds faithfully answered. She was one of five children horn on June 14, 1929 in Panama City, Panama to the late Mabel Butcher and Can Logan. Mrs. Hinds lovingly known as “Miss Elena” was a kindergarten (Escuelita) teacher at a church located, in 19th St, Rio Abajo.

When she left the church, she continued to teach from her home, which was located in La Boca Town, Rio Abajo. She later went to work at a restaurant located in Corozal on the Canal Zone, which was managed by her late husband. Upon her arrival to the United States of America in 1981, she obtained employment at Sears Roebuck.

Miss Elena was a devoted member of Church of God Victory. Also, she delighted us with her Panamanian cuisine; such as “Fritura ” (corn empanada, fried bread, etc. ) and she made the best codfish cake.

Gratitude is the ability to be grateful and thankful; Miss Elena expressed her sincere gratitude to following people: Guillermina Bethancourt, for always being there whenever she needed help, Martin. Gustave for spending time with her and chatting for hours, Simone Levy for the morning calls whether it was business or personal, Rita Weeks for the night phone calls that lasted well into the night, Irene McFarlene, who lives in Panama, for always being there to assist and to her goddaughter Maritza Brown for her abundance of love, her caring ways and for making her laugh, She leaves to mourn her four children: Sherla, Rafael (Carol), Yasmin (Jerome), Luis: eight grandchildren: Shonte, Brandon, Amanda, Brianna, Andrea, Alex, Daniel and Dasha; her niece Maritza Logan, who she raised as one of her own and a host of other nieces and nephews: two siblings: Maude and Alonso: three stepsiblings, extended family members and a host of friends who loved, her very much. .
