OBITUARY Elizabeth Calhoun Reichert February 26, 1931 – October 7, 2018 MARY ELIZABETH “BETSY” CALHOUN REICHERT 2/26/1931—10/7/2018 Betsy considered herself a fourth generation Houstonian even though she was born in Philadelphia General Hospital on the 23rd of February 1931, while her father was engaged in his medical residency, and moved to Houston 16 months later. She passed away on Sunday, the 7th of October 2018, in Houston. She was the daughter of Mozelle Thompson and Calvin Alsworth Calhoun, M. D. She attended Montrose Elementary, Lanier Junior High and Lamar Sr. High; graduated from The Hockaday School in Dallas, and The University of Texas, Austin, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta.

Betsy loved her 7 years at camp Waldemar where she was Best All Around Tejas and Tejas Leader. She was past President of the Junior League of Houston, River Oaks Garden Club, Holly Hall Retirement Community Board, Houston Ear Research Foundation, Houston City Panhellenic Assn. She was three times Chairman of Theta Charity Antiques Show, and Treasurer for 25 years.

Betsy was 1991 Theta of the Year; Panhellenic Citation Member, 1st Chairman of Houston’s Job Fair. She served on the Boards of The Health Museum, Friends of the Medical Center Library, Bayou Bend Docent Organization, Visiting Nurse Assn. , Harris County Heritage Society, Harris County Mental Health Assn.

, Houston Alumnae of Kappa Alpha Theta, Women’s Assn. of Houston Country Club, The Associate Boards of The Parish School and Covenant House and the Advisory Council of the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at The University of Texas. She was a Member of St. John the Divine.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, James Arthur Reichert; sons, James Alsworth Reichert and wife, Arlene, of Foster City California, and Arthur Thompson Reichert and his fiance, Peggy, of Cotati, California; her beloved cat, Peaches; a number of cousins, including Martha Ann and Byron Snyder, Susie and Joe Dilg, Harvey and Ford Smith, Fryar Calhoun, Margie and Mart Hubbard, Davis and Diane Brown, Marsha Eaton, and Lila McCall. Friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances of Betsy with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Monday, the 15th of October, in the grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

The memorial service is to be conducted at half-past eleven o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 16th of October, at The Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston, where the Rev. Charlie Holt, Associate Rector, is to officiate. Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent Sumners Hall.
