Obituary for Ellene Vaughan Elllene Ross “Mama Ene” Vaughan, 99, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at the Riverplace Nursing Center in Amory. Mrs. Vaughan was born on October 10, 1918 in the Parham Community to Casswell Elmer and Louelle Sugg Ross. A life-long member of Christian Chapel Church of Christ, she was a part of the “Lady Bugs” service group making Teddy bears for the children at Gilmore Memorial Hospital.

She enjoyed working in her yard tending to her flower gardens and was determined to not have leaves scattered in the yard. Sunday dinner was special at Mama Ene’s house because she cooked for the whole family and she always said she was making memories for her “Little Ones”. She and her husband, Gorden were the owners and operators of Vaughan’s Superette at the crossroads in Hatley for almost 20 years.

She was the last surviving member of the 1936 graduating class of Hatley High School. Funeral services for Mrs. Vaughan will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home with Ministers Marshall Eubanks, Jr. and Bobby Cleveland officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice Harrison (Buddy), Natasha Ashcraft (Melvyn), son, Lavies Vaughan (Margaret), and special daughter and caregiver, Charlotte Ritter all of Hatley; grandchildren, Brenson Harrison, Angela Cantrell (Marty), Tanya Parker, Charlie Ashcraft (Tiffany), Brandi Cook (Jim), Lori West (Jason), Tiffany Hathcock (Nick); stepgrandchildren, Christie Hendrix (Jason) and Charles Ruffin (Mary Helen); great grandchildren, Kristin Vuncannon, Jeremy Robertson, Samantha Parker, Allie Grace Cook, Mattie Clare Cook, Braxton West, Madilynn Hendrix, Grayson Ruffin, Colton Cantrell, Ashlye Spann, Paxton Cantrell, Hunter Ashcraft, Mallory Jordan, Brittany Cummings, and Brylan Hathcock; and great-great grandchildren, Ethan, Will, Avery, Alexa, Cash, Ivey Lynn, Knox, Beckham, and Gray. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Gorden L. Vaughan, her parents; brother, Kenton Ross; sisters, Evelyn Ross Parham, Retha Mae Ross Lindsey, Lois Nell Ross Creely, and her twin sister, Lorene Ross Lindsey. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Shirley Ray Parham, Roy Lee Lindsey, Mike Creely, George King, Van Pearson, Lewis Sanders.

Honorary pallbearer will be Kenny Noe.
