A funeral service for Ellis Eugene “Gene” Davis, age 80, of Jacksonville, is scheduled at 3 o’clock in the afternoon Friday, December 14, 2018 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville. Mr. Davis will be laid to rest at Earle’s Chapel Cemetery in Jacksonville. He passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018 in Jacksonville.

Gene was born June 23, 1938 in Quitman to L.V. and Madeline (Mezelle) Davis. Mr. Davis was store manager for Safeway, having retired after 20 years. He was self-employed… Read More » as owner of several small grocery stores and manager of several Shamrock stations.

Gene was a Baptist. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cindy Thedford; stepdaughter, Donna Lynn Brooks; grandsons, Eric Smith and Nick Brown; and an aunt, Lucille Hitt. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Bobbie Davis of Jacksonville; daughter, Amber Smith of Tyler; stepson, Bubba Brooks and wife Julie of Jacksonville; stepdaughter, Debra Brown of Concord; and sister, Sherille Mikles of OK.

He is also survived by six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Kirby Jones, Steven Bingham, Mike Posey, Scott Southard, Ben Hicks, and Justin Jones. Honorary pallbearers are Daniel Milton and Frank Stewart.

Visitation will begin on Thursday, December 13, 2018 and friends are cordially invited to visit with Gene’s family from 6 to 8 o’clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
