Elsie Arbuckle, September 02, 1923 — November 23, 2018

Obituary for Elsie Arbuckle Elsie Emma Arbuckle was born in 1923 in Glenn County California. She was the fourth child of Else and Emmanuel Gruber. She was raised in a farming community, working hard alongside her extended family, and attending school.

She was a graduate of Hamilton City High School. She met and married Ensign Glenn Arbuckle in 1944. They resided in Chico while raising their five children, and later, when their children were grown, they moved to property in Durham where they could enjoy the country life they were used to.

Her husband Glenn passed away in 1987. A few years later Elsie moved to Forest Ranch for the remainder of her life, except for her last months of care at Roseleaf Senior Living in Chico. Elsie worked in various jobs through the years while her children were growing up but her favorite was as a surgical aide at Community Hospital, which she did for many years before retiring.

In retirement Elsie enjoyed many wonderful traveling experiences, both in the United States and abroad. She enjoyed the peaceful and quiet solitude of the foothills, taking almost daily walks throughout her property. She also enjoyed the simple pleasures of baking, spending time with her family, and doing embroidery (which she did beautifully).

Elsie lived a full life of 95 years and left her family with many fond memories and loving stories to tell. She was not one to seek attention or be honored, but we honor her now. Her smile and wit will be missed by all.

May her memory be eternal. She is preceded in death by her husband Glenn Sr., her son Merritt, and granddaughter Cynthia. Elsie is survived by her children Glenn Jr., Chico; Marjorie Stephens, Los Molinos; Marsha Emerson, Arizona; and Gail Shelby, Santa Cruz; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
