Elsi Fstoughton , August 21, 1925 — December 12, 2018

Elsie F. Stoughton, 93, a longtime resident of the Forest Grove community, died Wednesday morning, December 12, 2018 at the Jennings McCall II Assisted Living Center in Forest Grove. Private Cremation Rites were held at the Hoyt Crematory in Forest Grove. ELSIE FERN STOUGHTON was born August 21, 1925 in Guymon, Oklahoma, the youngest of seven siblings, the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Jones and Nora Ann (Adkins) Jones.

She was raised and received her education in Oklahoma and Kansas. Elsie was united in marriage to William Henry “Bill” Stoughton on April 29, 1967. Following their marriage they resided in Southern California, both in Los Angeles County and Orange County.

She worked for many years as an escrow officer at Security First National Bank, which later became Security Pacific National Bank, in Pacific Palisades, California. This is where she met Bill Stoughton. Elsie especially enjoyed spending time at their mountain cabin, “The Last Resort”, in Crestline, California.

They often invited family members to the cabin where they would fish, play games and enjoy each other’s company. In addition to fishing, she enjoyed reading until her sight deteriorated, and she could no longer read even large-print books. Elsie moved to Oregon, settling in the Forest Grove community, in August of 2007, where she lived at Jennings McCall Retirement Community, until she passed.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Stoughton, in May of 1999, after celebrating thirty-two years of marriage together. She continued to love him until the day she died. Their cremains will be scattered together at a place to be chosen by the family.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Nora Jones; her brothers and sisters: Roy Jones, Cora (Peggy) Jones Lush, Raymond Jones, Irene Jones, Pearl Jones Thompson, Floyd Jones, & Paul Jones. Survivors include her step-daughter, Janice Stoughton, of Forest Grove, Oregon. Also surviving are her nieces, Anna Barclay and Sharon Riessland, and several great- nieces and nephews.
