Emma Jean Rutledge Lyons January 04, 1926 – May 24, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Funeral services for Ms. Emma Jean Rutledge Lyons, age 93 will be held on Monday, May 27, 2019 at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Gowen-Smith with Pastor Mark Rosson officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Ms. Jean passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her loving family Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, May 26, 2019 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm.

and also on Monday from 12:00 noon until the time of service. Ms. Jean was born on Monday, January 4, 1926 in Reedsville, West Virginia to the late George Willford and Bertha Esther Hansen. Her family then moved to Ohio where she grew up and graduated from Racine High School.

She worked at Dayton Air Force Base where she met and married Benjamin Rutledge who preceded her in death in 1988. She later married Audis Lyons who also preceded her in death. Ms. Jean worked at Pencil Printing for ten years and then later retired from American Can after approximately thirty years of service.

After her retirement, Jean enjoyed sewing and doing alterations for several local businesses. She loved making quilts for all of her children, grandchildren and many others. She was of the Baptist faith and charter member of the Eastview Baptist church in Shelbyville.

Survivors include her children: Sandy Howard of Bell Buckle, Pat Butler (Robert) of Shelbyville, George Rutledge (Judy) of Alamo, TN, Donna Brown (Bill) of Shelbyville, Joe Rutledge (Jessie) of Tullahoma, Rebecca Lambert of Shelbyville and Toni Smith (David) of Manchester. She is also survived by her siblings: Roger Willford of Ohio, Dessie Proffitt and Joann Proffitt both of Ohio. She is survived by twenty grandchildren and twenty nine great grandchildren.

Along with her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by one son: Sam Rutledge in 2006, two sisters and four brothers. She was also preceded in death by one grandson: Lester Eley in 1994.
