Enid’s Obituary Enid Doreen Harp, 96, of Basin, Wyoming died March 13, 2019 at the Wyoming Retirement Center. Enid was born in Portsmouth, England on February 9, 1923 to Charles and Frances (Andrews) Durden. She grew up in England surrounded by her loving family.

When she was 16 almost 17, her and her sister, Frances (3years older) joined the war effort in November 1939. This was just 2 months after England had entered the war. Enid served one year in a government office doing paperwork (which she hated) and the next five years after that she worked as a Physical Training Instructor, training the men and women.

She remembered World War II in Britain as “. . pretty hard”.

Enid met her husband on a train from Chester to a little town half an hour away. She was normally going to go on the first train, but decided to go on the second one. Charles was supposed to go on the first train but missed it and ended up going on the second one too.

Enid was late to the second train as usual and was worried she wouldn’t have a seat. Charles, stuck his head out the back of the train and yelled “There’s room here Miss”. He was with another man and a lady so she joined them.

She had a great time with the group and after three weeks they knew that they wanted to get married. He was sent to France but when the war ended, he hitch-hiked back to England where they got engaged. Charles had to go back to the United States with the military but Enid was able to join him a year later.

They were married on January 5, 1947 in Billings Montana, they made their first home in Lovell. They moved to Otto in 1951 and she worked alongside her husband on the family farm. They moved to Basin in 1961.

Many around the Basin would remember her as the Avon lady. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a grandchild, Bobby Brinkerhoff. She is survived by her children; son, Neal (Linda) Harp of Basin; son, Marvin (Patty) Harp of Greybull; and her grandchildren; Marvin (Carey) Harp of Sheridan; Sheila Manning of Casper; Carol Kaiser of Greybull; Mary (Rusty) Burden of Basin and Theresa Shumway, Chris Harp and Todd (Rachel) Harp all of Billings.

Cremation has taken place at the Antelope Butte Crematory in Greybull. A memorial service will be held later this spring. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atwood Family Funeral Directors.
