Erma J. Berridge, 82, lifelong South Bend resident, passed away at 12:54 am Thursday, January 31, 2019 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. She was born June 26, 1936 in South Bend to the late Joseph and Goldie (Wileman) Ray. On July 27, 1957 in Lagrange, IN, Erma married James D. Berridge, Sr., who preceded her in death on October 12, 2013 after 56 years of marriage.

She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Violet Ray, Lela Lesi, Ella Reidbach and Rose Jiles; and three brothers, Joseph, Jim and Johnny Ray. Erma is survived by daughters, Debra (Cal) Welker of Elkhart, Francee Foster (Rick) Newman of Edwardsburg, MI and Jackie (Tim) Southern of Granger; son, James Donald (Kathy McLemore) Berridge, Jr. of South Bend; grandchildren, Jon Rees, Janey Nicely, Jeffrey Foster, David Foster, James Southern and Nicole Southern; and eight great grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by sisters, Phyllis Hendrickson of Mishawaka, Shirley Labadie of South Bend and Virginia “Sis” DeGraff, also of South Bend.

Erma retired in 2001 from United Shade in Elkhart after 20 years of employment. Funeral services for Erma will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, February 4, 2019 in the Palmer Funeral Home – Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Rev.

Msgr. William C. Schooler will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, where she will be laid to rest next to her loving husband.

Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 – 6:00 pm Sunday, February 3, 2019 in the funeral home as well as one hour prior to services on Monday in the funeral home.
