Esther E. Leighty, 102, of Harmonsburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at Rolling Fields in Conneautville. Born February 16, 1916, in Summit Township, she was the daughter of Alvan and Chloie Heald Flaugh. She married Charles A. Leighty on June 8, 1940 in Summit Township.

He preceded her in death on April 11, 2001. She was a graduate of Summit High School in 1934 and then attended Erie Commercial College for one year. Esther worked for the Department of Transportation as a payroll secretary for 23 years.

She also worked for 14 years at Talon in Meadville and retired at the age of 70. She was a member of Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees. She was a member of the Harmonsburg Presbyterian Church.

She was a former member of the Church Ladies Aid. Esther was involved in starting the Harmonsburg Woman’s Club in 1947 and was a lifetime member. She was a former member of the Conneautville Eastern Star.

Esther was a member of the Vernon Grange, the Crawford County Pamona Grange, Pennsylvania State Grange and the National Grange. She was an affiliate member of the Lakeland Grange. She enjoyed gardening, baking, dancing, playing cards and always helping others when she could.

Survivors include a son, Charles A. Leighty and his wife, Connie, of Conneautville; a daughter, Linda Warren and her husband, Michael of Harmonsburg; four grandchildren, Charles A. Leighty III of McDonough, Georgia, Jenea Patrick and her husband, John, of Clinton, Pennsylvania, Jessica Machinsky and her husband, Rick, of Buckeye, Arizona and Erin Darby and her husband, Mark, of Harmonsburg; seven great-grandchildren, Zoe, Noah, Aislynn, Colton, Miles, Emma and Fiona; and numerous nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Rev.

Hydie Houston officiating. Burial will be private in Evergreen Cemetery in Harmonsburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Harmonsburg Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 124, Harmonsburg, Pa 16422.
