Slater, 91, Americus, Kansas and formerly of Salina, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019 at the Life Care Center, Burlington, Kansas. Esther White was born at Saint Mary’s, Kansas on August 12, 1927, the daughter of Thomas and Jewel (Sage) White. She married Urlin D. “Sonny” Slater at Topeka, Kansas on October 20, 1948.

He passed away December 9, 1991. Surviving family members include sons; Dan (Connie) Slater, Emporia, Kansas, Tom (Dori) Slater, LaGrange, Georgia, and Mike (Kristin) Slater, Colorado Springs, Colorado, daughters; Rhonda Slater, Allen, Kansas and Kim (Jim) Slater Dhority, Reading, Kansas, grandchildren; Matt Slater, Danielle Johnson, Cathy Worcester, Courtney Thomas, Drew Slater, Jeremy Slater, Brian Dhority, Jessica Crabtree, Kara Slater, and Kelsey Madl, as well as Eleven great-grandchildren. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia, and was active with the Americus (Kansas) Senior Center.

Mrs. Slater had worked in Salina at the Saint John’s Hospital, Dr. Duane Goering’s office, and retired from School Specialty Supply. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. Father Brandon Farrar will be Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Olpe, Kansas.

The Rosary will be recited at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M. The family will receive friends following the Rosary until 8:30 A memorial has been established with the Friends of the Emporia Animal Shelter with contributions sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
