Eugene Earl Briscoe February 1, 1938 ~ April 28, 2018 Eugene Earl Briscoe cherished Husband, Father, and Grandfather passed away April 28, 2018 after a long 9-year battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Malinda Briscoe and brothers Kenneth and Dale. Survived by his beloved wife, Virginia and daughters, Carolyn (Ken) Thompson, Pam (Chris) LeMay, Malinda (Dennis) Haggerty and grandchildren, Jess and Ben.
Born February 1, 1938 in Yuma, Colorado, Gene grew up on a farm where he learned to work hard, a discipline he exercised his whole life. He joined the U.S. Airforce and was eventually stationed at Hill Air Force Base. On a blind date that would change his life he met the love of his life, Virginia Saunders.
Married on April 18, 1958, Gene and Virginia recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. He worked at Hill Air Force Base at night while attending Weber State College where he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Gene eventually retired from HAFB.
Never one to sit still, even after retirement, he continued to work. As a father, Gene supported his girls in every activity they participated in rarely missing the countless concerts, sporting events, and performances. His girls knew he would always be there no matter what they might need all through their lives.
Gene joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was sealed to his “Sweety” in the Logan Temple December 7, 1961. He served in many callings and was well known as a knowledgeable Gospel Doctrine teacher. Also known as Buffalo Chips, Gene was an avid Mountain Man and black powder gun enthusiast.
Spending summer weekends at shoots he taught his girls to shoot black powder guns. It was not unusual to see a TeePee in the backyard as he would take his family to a rendezvous every summer. Owning a cannon he was an honorary member of the Utah Symphony performing the 1812 Overture at various places for many years.
Gene owned a Model T and was often spotted in parades or just taking a ride. If the Broncos were playing Gene would often be found cheering and yelling at the TV. Avid travelers Gene and Virginia visited every state except Hawaii, also traveling to Canada, Mexico and the Panama Canal.
He loved to travel to different places and see and meet people. He lived by the motto, “A stranger is just a friend I haven’t met yet”. A man of many talents and never afraid to try anything Gene could build and fix almost anything.
He remodeled and added on to his home and built a large garage/shop in his backyard where he repaired cars, built signs, fixed and built guns, cast bullets and countless more things. An incredibly generous man, Gene would go out of his way to help family and friends in need and regularly donated blood to the Red Cross. We thank Dr. Carl Gray and the staff at Utah Hematology Oncology who not only treated his cancer but loved and cherished Gene.
He will be missed every minute of every day until we meet with him again. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Springbrook Ward Chapel, 5080 South 3100 West. The family will meet with friends Friday, May 4th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church.
Interment, West Weber Cemetery. Donations to the Huntsman Cancer Center would be greatly appreciated.
