A limb has fallen from the Peel family tree. Eugene S. Peel, 72, loving husband for 52 years of Sandra Teater Peel, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Feb. 15, 2019.

Gene born Nov. 18, 1946, was a native of Jessamine County and one of eight children born to the late Elmer and Mollie Noel Peel. He was a member of Southland Christian Church where he served as Elder and was instrumental in the formation of the Helping Through Him program.

He was a sports enthusiast which lead him to umpire Little League programs and was coach and assistant coach of Little League baseball and basketball. He had a huge passion for UK sports, fishing, playing golf, trains and flying airplanes. Gene is a former member of the Jessamine County School Board where he was a long time board member and former board chairman.

He was recently honored by the School System when they dedicated the new diesel mechanics transportation center and named it the Eugene S. Peel Diesel Mechanics Center with a ceremony and reception held at the Center. He was most proud of the time he gave to the school district. Gene was a retired employee of LexMark.

In addition to his wife Sandy, he will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Vickie Drury, husband Stephen, son Brian Peel, grandchildren Adam Drury, wife Elizabeth, Austin and Aaron Drury, Brianna and Emily Peel, sisters Debbie Combs, Olivia Mallory, Norma Wells, husband Ken, Laura Peel, and Linda Preston, husband Danny. Gene will also be fondly remembered by his father and mother- in-law Kenneth and Shirley Teater, sisters-in-law Melinda Warford, husband Kevin, Missy Teater, Karen Taylor, husband Jim, brother-in-law John Slugantz, special friend Amy Day, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by a brother Henry Peel and sister Sandra Slugantz.

A Remembrance Service will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Southland Christian Church. His family will greet friends on Tuesday , Feb.

19, starting at 4:00 PM and ending at 8:00 PM at the Church and also on Wednesday beginning at 11:00 AM through time of the service. “Grieve not for me, remember the best times, the laughter, and the good life I lived while I was strong”.
