Eugenie Gaubert Castille was born October 30, 1933 in Loreauville to the late Maurice Gaubert and the late Mable Gondron Gaubert, and passed away peacefully Sunday, September 16 at Iberia Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was 84. Mrs. Jean, as she was affectionately known, was not only a homemaker, but worked outside the home as well.

She was a substitute bus driver (driving for her husband and other routes) for the Iberia Parish School Board for 19 years, and worked with Evangeline Funeral Home as a night hostess caring for families for many years. Early on, Mrs. Jean enjoyed sewing, embroidery and DIY projects around her home. She was also known for being a great cook and baker.

Many of her friends were often blessed with one of her pecan cakes or gateau sirop (syrup cake) and other homemade delicious treats. Just as she enjoyed cooking she found greater joy in holidays with her family. A story was told of her love for Christmas and being with the family to decorate the tree.

The children strung the lights and the grandchildren hung the ornaments, but only after Mrs. Jean told of the history behind the ornaments. A time that will forever be cherished. Last but certainly not least, was her faith in her home church, St. Joseph Church in Loreauville.

Mrs. Jean will be remembered for her beautiful smile, warm and generous heart, and the legacy of love she leaves with her family. She will be dearly missed. Survivors include her six children, Ellis L. “Boo” Castille, Jr. and wife Rose, Emerite Castille Delahoussaye and husband Keith Sr., Olga Castille Clarno and husband David, Kirk P. Castille and wife Roxie, Michael J. Castille and wife Sonya, and Craig F.
