OBITUARY Florence “Flo” Broussard Thibodeaux September 16, 1931 – January 10, 2019 NEW IBERIA – A memorial Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Florence Broussard “Flo” Thibodeaux will be held at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, date and time pending. Fr. Ed Degeyter will be the celebrant.

Following the mass, Mrs. Thibodeaux will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery with her husband J.C. and daughter Phyllis. Florence was born September 16, 1931 in Erath to the late Belus and Olite Theriot Broussard, and passed away peacefully Thursday, January 10, 2019 at New Iberia Manor North surrounded by her loving family. She was 87.

Those that knew Mrs. Flo, knew of her beautiful smile and heart of gold. She was the epitome of the word mother and lived her life in that very sense. She spent many years as a teacher’s aide working with special needs students and in school libraries.

After her retirement, she gave her time and kindness to the Council on Aging actively attending the bingo and dances and serving as a hostess making sure events were set up and members were cared for. Reading was a favorite pastime of hers, but family was always first. Her daughters shared how Sunday’s were dedicated to visits to family member’s homes and Florence made sure her girls were with her.

If not visiting others, she enjoyed having her grandchildren and great grandchildren at her home. This dear sweet lady maintained a positive outlook and was never without a smile for anyone she met. There will be a void in our family’s life, but her memory will forever be in our hearts and in our thoughts.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Kathleen “Kathy” Hulin Landry and husband Gabriel, Jenny Gibbons and husband Cletus and Angela Simon and husband Tony; her grandchildren; Tessa Cancienne (Ray), Julie Suarez (Jason), Coby Gibbons (Sheryl), Kellie Broussard (Dave), Jason Gaspard (Aubry), Meghan Denise (Brody), Brock Albert (Sam), Chad Duhon (Melinda), and Craig Duhon (Kristy); her 12 great grandchildren whom she adored, Emily and Christian Cancienne, Luke and Jaci Suarez, Zachary Gibbons, Jayden and Lauren Broussard, Andre’ and Jaylee Gaspard, Kaylee and Maverick Denise and Liam O’Mara; her sister-in-law, Isabelle Broussard; and her niece and nephews, Virgie Soirez, Teddy Baudoin and David Broussard. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, JC Thibodeaux; her daughter, Phyllis Duhon; her son-in-law, Gene Hulin; her granddaughter, Shanie; and her sisters and brothers, Nola Soirez, Dolson Broussard, Francis Broussard and Ceva Baudoin. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of New Iberia Manor North and Heart of Hospice for their care and compassion shown, and to her longtime and dear friend Joyce Bodin for her sincere friendship.
