She was born March 31, 1935 in Jetmore Kansas, the daughter of Andrew and Arlie (Sorem) Stramel. She was a graduate of Dodge City High School and a longtime Spearville resident.

She was a homemaker raising the Family on a farm north of Spearville. She was an avid crafter and enjoyed making quilts. She also crocheted stocking caps for local youth charities.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the D of I, the Tacky Club of Spearville and her monthly Cousin Club. On August 17, 1954 she married Melvin Hines at Dodge City. Survivors include: her husband of 64 years, Melvin, Spearville; their 8 children, Athena Moen and husband Dennis, Garfield, Kansas, Dale Hines and wife Sandy, Spearville, Alan Hines and wife Julie, Spearville, Gary Hines and wife Joleen, Dodge City, Kevin Hines and wife Susan, Spearville, Rick Hines and wife Karla, Hays, Kansas, Connie Schuette and husband Mike, Wichita and Sandra Junge and husband Tom, Adel, Iowa; 4 brothers, Claire Stramel and wife Sharon, Omaha, Nebraska, Andy Stramel and wife Mary Lou, Tampa , Florida, Clyde Stramel, Dodge City and Kenny Stramel and wife Marci, Denver, Colorado; a sister, Dorothy Gabel, Dodge City; 22 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Melvin Stramel. Vigil service will be at 7:00 pm Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at St. John Church, Spearville. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Thursday, March 7, 2019 at the church with Fr.

John Forkuoh presiding. Inurnment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Spearville. There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place.

Friends may sign the register book Tuesday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. The family suggests memorials to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave. , Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
