Floyd E. Sampson, age 94, of Cheboygan passed away Monday, June 4, 2018 at the Hospice House. He was born September 13, 1923 in Sanford, MI, the son of George M. and Ruth E. (Randall) Sampson. Floyd married Isabelle J. Adlam in 1944 and she preceded him in death on August 15, 1994.

He married Joyce Ingram on August 8, 1998 and she survives. Floyd was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943 during WWII and served with the 44th Infantry. He received a Purple Heart for being wounded in action and was honorably discharged in 1945.

Floyd had worked as an independent truck driver and was contracted with the U.S Postal Service to carry the mail to the Pellston Airport. He had also worked for Causley Trucking and retired in 1990 after 26 years of service. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, was a lifetime member of the V.F.W., Post #3623 and a former member of the Eagles, the Moose Lodge, the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion in Florida.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce of Cheboygan, his son, Floyd Arthur (Kathleen) Sampson of CA, two daughters, Margaret Ann (Larry) Blevins and Ruth Priscilla Sampson, both of TN, six step daughters, Jackie (Jim) Kenoyer of KY, Melva (Richard) McGee of OH, Lynn (Dennis) Barron of OH, Lorraine (David) Clare of Cheboygan, Rhonda (William) St. John of KY and Pansy (Harold) Blumke of Alanson, 19 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his first wife Isabelle, Floyd was preceded in death by his daughter, Marian Marti, two sisters, Bernice Bauer and Ruth Headrick, 6 brothers, Walter, George, Edward, Donald, James and Charles and his great grandson, Jayden James Barron. Visitation will take place at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home on Thursday, June 7 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.

The funeral service will take place on Friday, June 8 at 2:00 PM, also at the funeral home with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service. Pastor Dennis Barron will officiate and burial with full military honors will take place at Pinehill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Cheboygan Hospice House.
