Forrest Lee Martin October 30, 1928 – January 14, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Forrest Lee Martin, 90, formerly of Dresden, Ohio died peacefully at home in Galena, Ohio on January 14, 2019 following a brief illness. Born October 30, 1928, in Dresden, Ohio he was a son of the late Samuel Benedict and Alice (Eppley) Martin and was a 1946 graduate of Dresden Jefferson High School. He was class president, active in student council, was on the football team and played the trumpet and French horn.

Following high school he attended classes at The Ohio State University in 1946 and 1947. He then gradually entered into the family business opened as Martin’s Dairy in 1948. He and his family moved from the dairy business in January, 1963, to Cincinnati, Ohio where he began a career with Creamery Package, a subsidiary of St. Regis Paper, which later became APV Crepaco.

In 1984 he moved with the business to Wheaton, Illinois then finally to Westerville, Ohio in 1986 until he retired in 1991 after 28 years of service. He was member of the LaFayette Masonic Lodge #468, downtown Cincinnati, Ohio and also became a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He found pleasure in fishing, hunting, traveling and RV-ing in his Bounder(s).

He especially enjoyed and treasured spending time with his many loving family members and friends. Forrest is survived by his dear friend since 2004, Shirley Osborne, of Northfield, Vermont; two sons Jerry (Linda) Martin, of Galena, Ohio and Steve (Karen) Martin of Gahanna, Ohio; a daughter Trudi (Lynn) Buchman of Winnabow, North Carolina; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, sisters-in-law Mary Jo Martin, Marilyn Martin and Anne Huey and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Virginia Lucille (Huey) Martin whom he married March 12, 1949 and who died March 11, 2003.

Also a son, Jay Alan Martin who died July 30, 2018; a granddaughter, Melanie Eileen Lahmann who died in May 7, 1984; sisters Martha (Proctor) Jones, Esther Mae and five brothers, Donald (Sarah Margaret), Samuel (Molly), Kenneth (Clarabelle), Richard and Norman Martin. Calling hours will be 4pm to 7pm Monday, January 21, 2019 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street. Funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at the funeral home with Pastor Richard Purvis officiating.

Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 6500 Busch Blvd; Suite 210, Columbus, Ohio 43229.
