Frank P. LoFiego M.D., age 92, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018. He was born to Anthony and Rosina (Cirigliano) LoFiego on April 1, 1926 in Fairmont, West Virginia. At the age of 5, he knew he wanted to be a doctor.
Frank enlisted into the U. S. Navy and served in South Pacific. He fought in the invasion of Iwo Jima on February 19, 1945 and Okawnawa on his birthday, April 1, 1945. Frank returned to the U.S. and crossed the pacific to San Diego to New York.
He was at the helm… Read More » of the ship as they traveled to Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay, and honorably discharged in June 1946. In September of 1946, he entered Pre-Med at West Virginia University. Frank was inducted into the National Pre-Med Honor Society- Alpha Epsilon Delta.
He graduated in June 1949 Magnum Cum Laude from West Virginia University. Frank began medical school in September 1949 at St. Louis University. He married Patricia Ann Hoover on June 17, 1950, then graduated from Med School in May 1953.
From 1953 to 1954, he had a rotating internship at the Mercy Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. He started in private Practice in Toledo from 1954 until 1975. Frank received the board in family medicine, then moved to Florida in 1975 and entered into Private Practice for 6 years.
In 1981, he joined IBM Corporation and became managing Physician in Occupational Medicine. Frank retired in 1987 from IBM, then moved to the Villages in Lady Lake, Florida; and started with Dr. Michael Glick the Hometown Health Care; after 1 year he left, where he entered into private practice and specialized in Internal Medicine until 2000. Frank then moved back to Toledo in 2012 to be with family.
He is survived by wife of 68 years, Patricia; children, Shirley (Michael) LoFiego Williams, Frank (Cheryl) LoFiego, Tom (Pam) LoFiego; grandchildren, Misha (Rob) Williams Sledge, Megan (Chris) Goldyn, Michael Sean (Angie) Williams, Cara (Shawn) O’Neill, Tony (Brittany) LoFiego, Dominic (Cheryl) LoFiego, Matthew LoFiego, Elayne LoFiego; great-grandchildren, Alex Heenan, Lauren and Kendall Goldyn, Zachary Sledge, Louie Williams, Shamus, Maggie, Finnegan O’Neill; Gianna and Apollo LoFiego, Isabela and Lily LoFiego; he leaves behind many wonderful friends and patients that he has met throughout his life. Frank is preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to thank Promedica Hospice especially Wanda, Janet, and Guardian Angels, especially Yonnie.
