Fred Hillen, 75, Fargo, ND died on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo. Frederick Arthur Hillen was born on Nov. 20, 1943 in Highland Park, MI to Elmer and Ruth (Holycross) Hillen.

He attended high school in Warren, MI and at age 17 enlisted in the US Air Force. He served in the Air Force from 1961 to 1965. On June 25, 1965, Fred married Peggy Thomas in Harvey, ND.

They lived in Fessenden, ND and Jamestown, ND where he worked for Mellands International Harvester. They then moved to Wahpeton, ND where he worked for Wilrich and they settled in West Fargo in 1975. Fred worked for Clark Lift of ND, later Forklifts of ND as a sales rep and in other positions.

Peggy passed away on Dec. 15, 2015. Fred enjoyed bowling, playing cards, yardwork, fishing, playing horse shoes, family gatherings, playing catch in the backyard, teaching his kids and grandchildren how to roller skate and the occasional trip to the casino with Peggy.

He was a member of the American Legion and DAV. He is survived by two children, Bruce (Lynn) Hillen of West Fargo and Shannon (Jason) Bjornson of West Fargo, ND; daughter-in-law, Nancy Hillen; grandchildren, Shane, Shawn, Zachary, Austin, Jordann, Skyelor, Jayden, Cassandra and Carissa; great granddaughter, Sophia and soon to arrive great granddaughter. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Peggy; sons, Shane (infant) and Lonnie; siblings, Raymond, Kathy & Carolynn.

Funeral: Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 2 PM at West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo with visitation one hour prior. Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery – North, Fargo.
