Fred Louis Craigmiles April 25, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Fred Louis Craigmiles, age 80 was born in Cleveland, TN on March 2, 1939 to parents Louise and Samuel Craigmiles. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and five sisters. His remaining sister, Rebecca Powel and her husband Richard Powell reside in Cleveland, TN.

Fred attended and graduated College Hill School in Cleveland, TN. Fred, Andrew Tillery, and two of their close friends, joined the army and after serving, they returned to Cleveland for a short time. They made the decision to move to Chicago in search of a better opportunity.

Fred met and married Yvonne Williams on April 1, 1961. From their union, their children, Kristopher Lynn and Kourtney Marie Craigmiles were born. His wife preceded him in death after 43 years of marriage.

Fred was known for his strong work ethic. He was employed as a Chicago police officer and retired after 33 years of service. He also worked as a supervisor and 911 trainer at Chicago’s first emergency management center in Madison.

His last employment was as a police officer at the University of Chicago. He was truly a dedicated public servant! Fred was an all-around sports enthusiast and had a passion and love for golf.

In his younger days he played softball and basketball and was an avid runner. He also loved good food, was a jazz enthusiast, and enjoyed movie outings. He was also known and admired for having the most beautiful flowers, plant displays, and a beautiful manicured lawn where he resided.

Fred departed this life April 25, 2019. He leaves to mourn his passing, his children, two grandchildren, Zierra and Evon, sister, nieces, nephews, and their children and many cousins. Additionally, special recognition is given to his long-time companion, Helen L. Russell and her family.

Special acknowledgement to his life-long friend, Andrew Tillery, and his wife and to his nephews, Lynell Jones, and his wife and Craig Thompson, Sr. and his wife for their love, support and many prayers. He will be truly missed! Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Hill Cemetery in Cleveland, TN with Rev.
