Fred Smith, Jr., 80, of Hampton, died Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Hampton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center. All need to use 60th Street for access to the funeral home.

Fred was born on December 12, 1937, in Moline, the son of Fred and Rose (Van Lerberghe) Smith, Sr. Fred had served in the Marine Corps Reserves. He married Barbara A. Hartman in Las Vegas on December 24, 1982. She was the love of his life.

Every morning after arising he would bring coffee and the newspaper to Barbara in bed. It was then time to feed the birds and squirrels. Their yard was a wild life habitat.

Next the cats received their treats. Fred and Barbara were always together; whether gardening, going to the casinos or traveling the world. Every Sunday after church they stopped at McDonald’s for lunch.

Fred was very supportive of Arrowhead Ranch where he donated many vehicles and automotive tools. He was preceded in death by his son, Aaron, wife, Barbara, and his kitties. Memories may be shared on the tribute wall.
