Frederick Grace of the Holmesburg neighborhood, Philadelphia, PA. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018.

He was 87. Born in Chester, PA on Dec. 29, 1930, he was the son of late James and Mary (Shields) Grace.

He married his beloved wife, Patricia (Bunny) nee Feeney, in 1955. Surviving him are his children Frederick (Patty) Hatboro, Margaret (Will Weaver) Phila. PA, Marina, Phila, PA.

and Matthew, Phila. , PA. In addition to his children, he is survived by his sister Alice Babe (George), and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary, his loving wife Bunny, and siblings James, Rosemary and Ann. After graduating from St. James High School for Boys, Chester, PA, Fred enlisted in the US Air Force where he served with distinction in Korea. After being honorably discharged, he enrolled in the Philadelphia Police Academy.

While serving the citizens of Philadelphia as a police officer, he enrolled and graduated from LaSalle College. His love of history, social justice and desire to help others translated into a 36-year career as a history and social studies teacher in the Philadelphia School District at Simon Gratz High School and Central High School. He enjoyed working at Liberty Bell Race Track from the opening day celebration until the last day of operation.

Friends and family are invited to share memories of Fred from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the John J Bryers Funeral Home, 406 North Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19040. A Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 am, Saint David Roman Catholic Church, 316 North Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090.

A private graveside service will be held at a date to be decided, Holy Cross Cemetary, Yeadon, PA. Instead of flowers, the family has suggested donations in Fred’s name to charities that honor his passions – history and horses. Museum of the American Revolution, National Constitution Center, and Futures for Standardbreds.
