Obituary for Gaetano “Guy” Sergi Gaetano “Guy” J. Sergi, resident of Waltham since 1960, died Friday evening April 27, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Sergi was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts on February 1, 1929. He was the cherished son of the late Giovanni “John” and Giovanna Sergi of Sicily.

Family meant everything to Guy. As an infant, Mr. Sergi returned to his native country of Italy and spent his childhood growing up in Santo Stefano di Briga in the province of Messina, Sicily. Upon learning of his passing, the bells rang loudly in Guy’s honor through the streets of Santo Stefano, Sicily.

Mr. Sergi is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Josephine “Pina” N. Sergi. Beloved father of three sons: John and his wife Cindi of Waltham, Robert and his wife Vivian of Weston, and Guy R. Sergi also of Waltham; grandfather or “Nonno” of six grandchildren: Cristina Knellinger (Sergi) and her husband Nicholas, Sarah A. Boleski (Sergi) and her husband Matt, Robert “Bobby” J. Sergi, Christopher M. Sergi, Guy A. Sergi and his wife Kristina, and John L. Sergi, Jr; great-grandfather or “Bisnonno” of two great-grandchildren: Logan T. Boleski and Hunter W. Knellinger. Mr. Sergi, a Korean War veteran, was a proud member of the United States Army from 1951 until honorably discharged in 1957.

After his service, he belonged to the local American Legion. Most importantly, he loved his wife, family, and friends. He enjoyed making homemade sausages and wine – handpicking the grapes for the process.

He was an avid Bruins fan and never missed a game. He diligently worked in the meat department for Star Market for 35 years and ultimately became manager. When he wasn’t working, Guy could be found tending to his vegetable garden in the backyard.

He had a green-thumb and took pride in having an annual vegetable garden. Along with his wife Pina, Guy was known to always have company over his house. Whether with family or friends, he always made sure that his house was always filled with warmth, good food, and happiness.

His family’s most cherished memories of him are rooted in their weekly Sunday noon lunches. Guy was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend to anyone he knew. His memory and traditions will live on through his family.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services in celebration of Gaetano’s Life from the Brasco & Sons Memorial, 325 Trapelo Road, BELMONT on Thursday morning May 3rd at 8:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Luke’s Church, 132 Lexington Street, Belmont at 9:00 a.m. Interment with United States Army Military Honors will follow at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Watertown.
