Obituary for Gary Steven Hendrix Gary Steven Hendrix, age 61, died on December 20, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN. Surrounded by loved ones, Gary ended his journey with pancreatic cancer in his typical manner, quietly and without fuss. Preceded in death by father, Norman Hendrix (Bee); nephew, Daniel Sealey; stepfather, Andy Chizek; brother-in-law, Doug McMurray.
Survived by partner Mary Jo Rieger and son Patrick; mother, Willi Chizek; siblings, Karen McMurray, Laurie Sealey and Kirk Hendrix (Amy); nieces, Paige, Hope, and Sydney; 27 antique radios, 220 candlesticks and 49 lamps. Forever, Gary will be cherished as a gentle, compassionate, and patient man who inspired the best in people. He will be dearly missed for his quick wit and tender demeanor.
Gary was born on September 6th 1957 in Omaha, Nebraska and spent an idyllic childhood in Carter Lake, Iowa where he played baseball, basketball, and most memorably the class clown. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson HS in Council Bluffs and Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville where he earned his B.A. in Theatre Arts. In pursuit of an acting career, Gary moved to the Twin Cities where he performed at several venues including Shakespeare and Company, Children’s Theatre and Theatre in the Round.
His stellar performance in Who am I this Time? renders a behind the scenes glimpse into Gary’s character – genuinely sweet and shy, with volcanic bravado! Most recently, Gary worked for Hi Health Innovations at United Health in Eden Prairie, and ICON Office Solutions in Mpls.
Gary was the master of quirky birthday cards and gifts, designed and donned off-beat Halloween costumes and relished huge plates of food. In addition, he enjoyed antiquing, biking, and playing guitar. Thankfully, Gary eagerly passed on his passion for acting, folk music, and plaid to his beloved soul-son Patrick!
Out of all the roles Gary played, his most treasured were that of devoted father, son, brother, and friend. He had the gift of living in the moment and thrived in the intimacy of small gatherings where he exuded a genuine warmth that made guests feel welcomed and listened to. Visitation 1:30 pm, Saturday, January 5, 2019 followed by Memorial Service at 2 pm; Lakewood Cemetery Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55409.
Memorials preferred to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN). A heart-felt thank you to Frauenshuh Cancer Center for their exceptional care of Gary! Gill Brothers 612-861-6088 www.
