Gary Thompson March 09, 1935 – February 04, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Gary Lee Thompson, 83, passed away February 4, 2019 at his home in St. George, Utah. He was born March 9, 1935 to Clem Levi and JeNeal Thompson. Gary lived a full, adventurous life and meant so much to so many through his never-ending acts of service and love.

At a young age, Gary helped in the family sheep shearing business and traveled from California to Montana. While attending South Fremont High School, Gary excelled in sports, choir, drama, and was student body president. He met the love of his life, Merlynn Mace, at a seminary party at Green Canyon Hot Springs.

Gary and Merlynn were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. After Gary graduated from high school he was hired by Western Electric, a subsidiary of AT&T. Throughout his career with AT&T, Gary and Merlynn moved more than 30 times over the years in Idaho, Utah, and Colorado.

As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many positions, including in a bishopric, Stake Executive Secretary, and in the nursery, his favorite calling ever. He and Merlynn also served an LDS mission to the Cove Fort Mission and a service mission to BYU-Hawaii. After retiring from AT&T, Gary embarked on many successful business endeavors.

He used his uncanny ability to fix anything and everything, to its fullest. He was a jack-of-all-trades handyman who was on call, ready to help anyone in need. Gary is survived by his wife, Merlynn Mace Thompson of Rexburg; children, Broc L. (Lisa) Thompson, Brenda (Max) Siddoway, Melanie Roebuck, Trenna (Justin) Belka; sister, Carol Dayton; brother, Lyle Thompson; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clem and JeNeal Thompson; and brothers, Clem Thompson Jr., and Roger Thompson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 11, at the Rexburg 4th Ward Chapel, 166 South 1st East. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home, 61 North 1st East, in Rexburg, and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.

Interment will be in the Wilford Cemetery.
