OBITUARY Geoffrey Nielsen September 8, 1939 – February 2, 2019 Geoffrey M. Nielsen, 79, of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 2, 2019 in the comfort of his home. Geoff was born in Hartford on September 8, 1939, son of the late Milton E. and Faith (Hunt) Nielsen. In addition to his parents, Geoff was predeceased by his sister Candace McIlhenny.

Geoff grew up in Wethersfield, attended Wethersfield High School and was a longtime parishioner of Trinity Episcopal Church. For many years, Geoff worked for his family business at Nielsen Tool and Die Co. where he was Safety Director. He was a proud firefighter for the Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Department, Company 2 for 37 years, attaining the rank of Lieutenant.

Geoff was a great friend and mentor for both Wethersfield Fire Department and fire departments statewide. He was also a lifetime member of the Niantic Fire Department. Over the years, he was very active in many community organizations, the CT Fire Department Instructors Association, The Fire Museum of Manchester, the CT River Museum and the Connecticut Fallen Firefighter Memorial which honors the lives of firefighters lost in the line of duty, to name a few.

Geoff had several interests outside of the fire department, which included his passion for reading, history and he especially enjoyed collecting books and antiques. Geoff was a kind and gentle soul and made a tremendous impact on everyone he met. He will be missed by so many, especially his lifetime friend Rick Warriner of Coventry, and his dear friend Maureen Scully, Oquossoc, ME.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 300 Main Street, Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church. Burial will follow at Village Cemetery in Old Wethersfield.

Memorial contributions in Geoff’s memory may be made to the Wethersfield Police Canine Unit, 250 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield, CT 06109.
