He grew up in Crosbytown, Texas and graduated high school in Levelland, Texas Ed played football for Texas Tech his freshman year of college and joined the US Navy the following year. After his navy career ended, he found himself at the Levelland Court House needing a chain letter typed up when he met and fell in love with the Typist, Venita Jean Basye of Levelland, Texas. Ed worked hard all of his life. He was in the business of heavy equipment hauling and was gone sometimes for weeks at a time while Jean diligently and faithfully raised their children. Despite working long hours in extreme temperatures, he would often tell people Jean really had the toughest job raising the kids.
His faith in God sustained him his whole life. Many times he would tell his Grand/Great grandchildren that he wasn’t afraid to die; he knew where he was going to spend eternity. Ed outlived all of his family and most of his lifelong friends.
His only request was to have “He was dependable” on his headstone. That he was! After loosing his wife, Jean, to leukemia, October 1, 2000, Ed remarried Pat Glasscock of Portales, New Mexico on July 31, 2001.
