Mr. George J. Fristic, 64, a lifelong resident of the North End section of the city, passed into Eternal Life early Monday morning in the care of Celtic Healtcare Hospice inpatient unit at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre following an illness. Born May 21, 1953 in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son to the late George and Anna (Estock) Fristic. Educated in the city schools, he was a member of the 1971 graduating class of the James L. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

Mr. Fristic furthered his education by attending business college with courses in accounting, and later attended Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus for courses in sociology. Until his retirement, George was employed for thirty-seven years in natural gas utilities as an inspector. He began his professional career in 1980 with the former Pennsylvania Gas and Water, later PG Energy, finally retiring in 2016 from U.G.I. Penn Natural Gas.

Proud of his Slovak heritage, Mr. Fristic was very active with the North End Slovak Citizens Club, where he held the office of financial secretary for some 21 years. He was honored by the membership by being “Man of the Year” in 2004. He also held office as the secretary / treasurer for Local #406.

George is remembered as being a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle to his beloved family who was also deeply devoted to his faith. He was a member of the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, North End Wilkes-Barre having been a devoted member to the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Slovak Roman Catholic Church prior to its closure and subsequent merger. He and his wife, the former Irene Scorey would have celebrated forty years of married life together this August 12th.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Shirley Ann MacNeely and by a nephew, Mr. Chris Waxmonsky. Left to mourn his passing besides his wife Irene at home, are the couple’s children and their families. David Fristic and his wife Cynthia of Shavertown, their daughter Megan Majeski and her husband Ted along with their children Teddy and Addi; George Fristic of North End Wilkes-Barre; Anna Victoria Jones, her fiance, Max Derby of Sweet Valley, their children Madeline, Tyler and John; Mary Kerestes and her husband Stephen of Nanticoke, their children Alexis “Alexie”, Amelia and Ryan; Niece, Laura Waxmonsky of Miners Mills and her sons Jacob and James; Several co-workers and dear friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Fristic will be conducted on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the North Wilkes-Barre location of the John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 North Main Street, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette. The Reverend Kenneth M. Seegar, pastor will serve as celebrant and homilist. Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Cemetery of Saint Andre Bessette Parish, Dorchester Drive, Dallas.

Relatives and friends may join the Fristic family for visitation and remembrances Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
