Mr. Raymond Joseph Washicosky, 78, a resident of Trucksville, passed into Eternal Life early Friday morning in the care of the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following a recent illness. Born February 9, 1940 in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son to the late Joseph and Anna (Mihoch) Washicosky. Educated in the local schools, Raymond was a member of the 1957graduating class of the former Plains High School.
Following his education, Mr. Washicosky proudly served our country with the United States Army, stationed in Studgard, Germany as a military police officer. Upon his return home, he furthered his education towards his vocation by attaining an associates degree in engineering from Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus. Until his retirement, he was employed as an engineer with several local engineering firms, retiring from the G.S.G.S.
& B. Company of Clarks Summit. He was a life member of Saint Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Wilkes-Barre, where he previously served in various capacities as lector, altar assistant and church elder. He and his wife, the former Joyce Jones celebrated 54 years of married life together on November 2nd of last year.
He is remembered as being a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother to his family. In his spare time, he was an avid golfer and fisherman and loved to travel with his family. Ray was preceded in death by an infant sister, Miss Jean Washicosky and by brothers Mr. Joseph Washicosky and most recently, Mr. Stephen Washicosky.
Left to mourn his passing in addition to his beloved wife Joyce at home are the couple’s daughters, Mrs. Karen Walker, her husband George of Wyoming and their children Krista Walker and her fiancé, Reverend John Zimmerman, George and his wife Cindy Walker and Sarah Rose Walker and Mrs. Nancy Petrosky, her husband Mark of York Springs and their children Sarah Jean and Tony; Sister, Mrs. Louise Majeski and her husband Carl of the Hudson section of Plains Township; Brother, Mr. John Washicosky and his wife Mary of Forty-Fort; Several nieces, nephews, fellow congregation members and dear friends. Funeral services for Mr. Washicosky will be conducted on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 663 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Peter J. Haenftling, pastor, will serve as celebrant.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Matthew Lawn section of Fern Knoll Burial Park, Midland Avenue, Dallas. Relatives and friends may join the Washicosky family for visitation and remem brances directly at church Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
