Mr. Richard (Dick) Lyons, 82, a resident of North Wilkes-Barre, entered into Eternal Life peacefully Monday afternoon in the comfort of his residence and surrounded by his beloved family following a lingering illness. Born May 30, 1936 in Kingston Township, he was a son to the late Willard E. Lyons and Ruth (Sickler) Lyons-Egroff. He was educated in the Kingston schools, later graduating from the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, following his family’s relocation to the Wyoming Valley.
Following his formal education, Mr. Lyons proudly served our country in the 32nd infantry, Third Division of the U.S. Army and the National Reserves. He worked for many years self-employed as an auto body and fender repairman and electrician in Wilkes-Barre prior to his retirement. He and his wife, the former Theresa A. Fuller, celebrated fifty-seven years of married life together on January 28th of this year.
In his spare time, Mr. Lyons could often be seen tending to his many gardens he would cultivate at the family home over the years. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Lloyd; Two nephews, Eric and David Lloyd and by two great-grandsons, Brett and Brayden. Left to mourn his passing in addition to his beloved wife and caretaker Theresa at home are the couple’s children; Rose Marie Strazdus, (Joseph) of Wilkes-Barre; Richard Lyons Jr. (Jodi) of Lafin; Tracy Pavone (David) of Mountain Top and Thomas A. Lyons of Shavertown; Eight grandchildren including Tiffany, Bruce, Brittany and Tonya Partington; Stacy Czerniakowski, Matthew, Scott and Ryan Pavone; Eighteen great-grandchildren; Sister, Patricia Santerelli (Arthur) of Dupont; Brother, Clarence Egroff of Shickshinny; Numerous nieces, nephews, and dear family friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Lyons will be conducted on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. from the North Wilkes-Barre location of the John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 North Main Street. Serving as celebrant will be Pastor Frank Harrison of Bennett-Derr United Methodist Church, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Relatives and friends may join Richard’s family for visitation and remembrances Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until the time of services. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge Dr. James Galasso and Dr. Barry Pernikoff, the nurses at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, especially Randy, Pat and Holly.
