Wauzeka, WI George J. Mezera age 85 of Wauzeka passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. George was born January 19, 1934 to Frank and Margaret (Konichek). He graduated from Wauzeka High in 1952.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957 as a tank mechanic and sentry. In 1974, he completed the Agriculture Program at Southwest Wisconsin Vocational Technical Institute. He continued his love for farming on his family farm.

He was also employed by Mezera & Fischer Construction, township treasurer, a school bus driver for the Wauzeka-Stueben School District for 32 years, and a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Parish in Wauzeka. George married Marie Fecht on August 23, 1960 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Platteville, WI. George is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marie, his children: Mark (Tracy) of Lancaster, Shirley (Dave) Wall, Dan (Marcia), Lisa (Jim) Stoehr, Dee (Todd)O’Connell, Carolyn (Jim) McGrath, all of Prairie du Chien, Linda (Jason) Figi, Browntown.

He is also survived by his 17 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 9 step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Margaret (Konichek) and siblings. George was an avid Brewers, Packers, and Badgers fan.

He enjoyed listening and watching games. He also enjoyed playing ball at the Bush Ballpark and spending time with his family. George enjoyed the different activities on the farm.

He always had a smile on his face and a great sense of humor. The family appreciates the love and support they received during George’s illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wauzeka with burial in the Wauzeka Cemetery.

Military honors will be accorded graveside. Friends may call Thursday, March 14, 2019 at the Garrity Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM where there will be a rosary at 7:00 PM. Friends may also call at Sacred Heart Church Hall on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass.
