Obituary for George J. O’Rourke THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF GEORGE J. O’ROURKE Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather & Great Grandfather WOLCOTT – George J. O’Rourke age 91, of Wolcott, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love and comfort of his family, after a brief illness on Saturday, January 19, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Dolores (McEvoy) O’Rourke. George was born July 3rd 1927 in Waterbury CT, the son of the late George W. and Della (Quinn) O’Rourke.
He was a graduate of Wilby High School and Post College and proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II. George started in the banking industry at the age of 16, retiring as the President of Thomaston Saving Bank in 1992. He was a communicant of Saints Peter and Paul Church and enjoyed golfing and traveling, especially his trips to Ireland and Aruba with his beloved wife, Dolores.
What was most important to George and what brought him the greatest joy, was his family. He was always happiest being surrounded by them and spending time with his adored grandsons and great granddaughters. A dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend, George will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.
Besides his wife, Dolores of 63 years, George is survived by his children, Kevin O’Rourke and his wife, Marianne of Virginia Beach, VA, Brian O’Rourke and his wife, Cheryl of Watertown, Patricia Perritano and her husband, Leo of Watertown, Sheila DiStasio and her husband, Thomas of Watertown, and Terri O’Rourke of Watertown. In addition, he leaves his eight grandsons, Michael, Matthew, Colin, Thomas, James, Joseph, David and Daniel and his two great granddaughters Quinn and Kensley as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a son, Joseph O’Rourke and his siblings, Fred O’Rourke and Irene White.
Funeral services for Mr. O’Rourke will be held on Wednesday, January 23rd 2019 at 11::00 a.m at SS. Peter and Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Rd. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit with George’s family on Tuesday evening, January 22nd from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St. @ Southmayd Rd, Waterbury, CT.
