George O. Blocher, 95 Lincoln resident George O. Blocher, 95, of Lincoln, formerly of Kearney, died Saturday, March 16, 2019 at The Windcrest on Van Dorn Assisted Living Facility. A family graveside service will be held at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Omaha.

There will be no visitation. George Orval Blocher was born February 1, 1924 in Clay County, NE to Orval and Leah (Fairley) Blocher. He was raised in Auburn, NE and was a 1941 graduate of Auburn High School.

George earned his bachelor’s degree from Peru State College, his master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado and his Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. George served his country in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946, serving six months in Austria. On September 2, 1945, George was united in marriage to Jeanne Mayer in Auburn, NE.

George spent 38 years in education. First as a teacher, then a professor at Kearney State College, and later as a Superintendent, before retiring in 1986. George and Jeanne lived at Johnson Lake for several years.

There they enjoyed the wildlife, bald eagles and pelicans. The couple later moved to Kearney in 2001. George enjoyed golfing and achieved a hole-in-one.

He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. George also enjoyed photography and developing his own photos. He was a member of the Kearney First Christian Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jeanne Blocher of Lincoln; his children, Susan Griess of Lincoln, Barry (Margie) Blocher of Oregon, Michael (Cheri) Blocher of Oakdale, Sally (Gary) Bernhardt of Omaha; grandchildren, Trent Pfeil, Ryan (Sheri) Pfeil of Lincoln, Brooke (Joe) Hartnett of Omaha, Brady (Dawn) Venema of Omaha, Erin Kaminker of Oregon; great grandchildren, Haley, Brianna and Austin Pfeil; Ellie, Isabelle and Joey Hartnett; Drake and Eden Venema; Sophia Kaminker; sister Naida Knudson of Aurora, CO; and brother Gerald Blocher of Hutchinson, KS. George was preceded in death by his grandson, Chad Blocher. Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska State Education Association (NSEA) Foundation, Peru State College, the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and the American Red Cross.
