George’s Obituary George Koonce was born in Hackensack, NJ the second son of John Homer Koonce, Sr. and wife Florence Beatress (Cain) Koonce. He is survived by his older brother, John Homer Koonce, Jr. and his wife Georgia Margaret (Bradford) Koonce, Nieces Diane Elizabeth Koonce, Lynda Louise Koonce, Great Nephew John Grayson Koonce-Fisher, Great Nieces, Courtney Leigh Redlinger and Laura Louise Redlinger, and many friends. When George was born, his spine had a very serious curvature, the doctors told his parents that he would never be able to walk.

Modification to his shoes and an awkward stance allowed George to walk the rest of his life, indicating he was able to solve very tough problems early in life. After several moves the family settled in Fayetteville, a suburb of Syracuse, NY. George graduated from Fayetteville HHHigh School and went on to Syracuse University.

He graduated from Syracuse University with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering. It was during these years that he developed an interest in auto hot rodding and built his own street rod based on a 1934 Ford Coupe. As his experience grew, he developed a reputation as an expert engine builder/tuner.

Upon graduation from the University he took a job with the Government Division of the General Electric Co. and purchased a house in Liverpool to be near his work place. There was some acreage and he acquired two large dogs which he loved to walk with each day. Meanwhile over the years his responsibilities grew to be a consulting engineer for projects with the General Electric Co. During his time at GE he developed an interest in HI-FI speaker enclosures.

At first, he was a contributing author of many articles for his speaker cabinets. Later, as G. R. Koonce, he co –authored, with David B Weems, a book on speaker design entitled “With Computer-Aided-Design Projects GREAT SOUND STEREO SPEAKER MANUAL”, second edition by McGraw Hill. With yet another bout of pneumonia getting much worse than before, he slipped away peacefully in his sleep.

He will be missed. He was my brother and I loved him very much.
