George W. Ward of Seaford, DE went home to be with the Lord on November 1, 2018. He slipped away peacefully with his daughter by his side. Mr. Ward was born to the late Fred L. Ward and Dora Lowe Ward on August 17, 1928.

He grew up on his parents’ farm and spoke of it often during the last years of his life. He graduated from Laurel High School and enlisted in the Air Force where he was introduced to accounting. After he completed his time in the service, he enrolled in Goldey-Beacom College in northern Delaware.

Upon graduating from Goldey- Beacom with an associate’s degree in accounting, he found his first job at Beacon Milling Company in Laurel. He then went to work for Caroline Foods located in Federalsburg, MD as a comptroller. Wilson Sporting Goods took over Caroline Foods and relocated to Oklahoma City.

Mr. Ward packed up his family and moved to Oklahoma where they resided for four months. He and his family missed their family and friends and George missed sailing his boat on the Chesapeake Bay. They returned to Seaford and he began working for PENCO as an accountant and comptroller until his retirement.

Mr. Ward was a member of the Methodist Men of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, the Seaford Kiwanis Club, The Nanticoke Yacht Club and the American Legion. He loved to golf and sail his boat. George Ward was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Dora Ward, his wife of 61 years Frances Ward, his sister Jean Ward Smarte, and brother Donald Ward.

He is survived by his daughter Janice Spadafino and her husband Joe, his grandson Nicholas Spadafino of Dover, DE and sister Annabel Ward Cordrey of Delmar, DE. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Cranston’s Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St., Seaford, DE. Friends may call from 12 to 1.

Burial will be held in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel.
